Dental Veneers are fine ceramic pieces used in dental restorations to achieve natural, esthetic and long-lasting results. When our patients are not satisfied with the color, shape or position of their teeth, we use these pieces, which serve as a cover for the natural tooth, in order to create a more harmonious smile that meets their expectations.

At Prime Dental Clinic we use the latest technologies in Dental Medicine, to create thinner and more resistant Dental Contact Lenses, capable of producing more esthetic results and with the enormous advantage of not requiring a big wear on the tooth surface before starting treatment.

Since this treatment started in Portugal, it has gained more and more noticeability and is currently one of the most sought after in our Dental Clinic.

Before placing the final Veneers, we carry out a test with provisional material, to ensure that both the doctor and the patient are satisfied with the final result.

We believe that teamwork, in this case, will offer the best result, ensuring that the treatment will be able to reproduce the functionality of a natural dentition and at the same time meet the patient’s expectations!

When should Dental Veneers be applied

The placement of dental veneers is an aesthetic treatment designed to give you the smile you’ve always wanted. We advise all our patients who are not satisfied with their smile to get in touch with us and check whether this treatment is appropriate for their condition.

This treatment is often used in cases when:

  • Teeth have lost their natural color;
  • There was a chipping or breaking of the tooth;
  • Teeth are worn out, for example due to conditions such as “bruxism”;
  • Teeth are not aligned
  • There are small spaces between the teeth.

In some cases, when our patients come to us to change the arrangement of several pieces of teeth, we recommend starting with an orthodontic treatment that will help to bring the teeth to the desired position and then proceed with the placement of veneers, or contact lenses, in order to obtain the best final result.

Dental Veneer Placement Process

Dental veneer placement should always start with an Assessment and Diagnosis consultation, where exhaustive intra and extraoral examinations are carried out, to ensure the oral health of the patient and to discuss the patient’s expectations and how the Dentist can combine them with a successful treatment.

If there are some ill conditions, such as the presence of dental cavities, they must be treated before starting the treatment. The exams document everything related to color, tooth marks, stains or other characteristics present.

In a Second appointment, the teeth will be prepared and we proceed with the placement of temporary veneers, which show the patient an approximation of the final result.

After a few days, an aesthetic and functional assessment of these provisional veneers is carried out in order to check whether they meet the patient’s expectations.

The Last appointment must take place 3 weeks after the first, allowing time to prepare each piece individually, taking into account all the details to ensure that the final result will be ideal.

After applying the permanent veneers, the patient can return to their daily routine, always taking into account the recommendations given by the responsible dentist.

FAQ

What are the advantages of using Dental Veneers?

At Prime Dental Clinic, we recommend the placement of dental veneers mainly to improve Dental Aesthetics and Smile.

However, this treatment can bring other advantages such as facilitating oral hygiene, improving gum health and improving the function of chewing, biting and talking.

Do thinner dental veneers break more easily?

No.

Because of the way they are made, all veneers are extremely resistant. Dental Contact Lenses do not differ much from Dental Veneers.

The biggest difference is exactly this thickness, having the advantage of not needing so much wear on the tooth before starting the treatment.

How much wear does the dentist need to create on the teeth to place dental veneers?

The required wear always depends on the situation of the patients’ teeth and the desired alteration.

When we do not want any lip or teeth projection, or when there is a significant change in tooth color, we may have to create a bigger wear on the teeth surface.

But in treatments such as closing diastema, the wear is usually very little – between 0.1 and 0.2 mm.

How much time will veneers last?

Our dental veneer treatments last on average between 10 and 12 years, and may be longer. It is always important that patients follow the hygiene and maintenance standards recommended by the Dentist.

Do Dental Veneers make it more difficult to carry the natural functions of our teeth?

No.

The Dental Veneer will serve as a cover for the tooth, having as its main function to improve its aesthetics. But the tooth will still be present and basically untouched by the treatment, being able to support its natural functions.

In many cases, our dental veneers will also help with chewing and phonetic function.

How should the patient keep the veneers clean?

Cleaning of Dental Veneers or Contact Lenses must be the same as for natural dentition.

We recommend brushing twice a day, together with the use of dental floss and Elixir.

When is it more recommended to undergo treatments with dental implants and dental veneers?

Dental implants are pieces of titanium that are inserted in the maxillary bone, or in the mandible, where the dentist will be able to “screw” artificial teeth.

These implants will simulate natural roots when our patients are missing one or more teeth.

Unlike veneers, implants have a great importance in restoring functionality to the smile of patients, having a greater impact on bite, chewing capacity and phonetics.

We recommend the use of Dental Veneers when the teeth are worn but still functional or do not have the desired aesthetics and we recommend the use of Dental Implants when the teeth has lost much of its functionality or is no longer present.

What are the disadvantages of using dental veneers?

Many of our patients seek dental veneer treatment when they want to align their teeth.

However, this treatment is only possible in cases where there isn’t a lot of damage. When there is a large misalignment, we always recommend starting with orthodontic treatments before proceeding with the placement of veneers.

Another disadvantage associated with the use of Dental Veneers is the need in many cases to start with wearing the tooth, which is irreversible in the future.

Fortunately, our dental veneers have a high durability and can always be replaced when wear starts to be significant.
